    There was always a chance Oasis’ reunion shows might collapse beneath the sheer weight of expectation. Instead, the Gallaghers have spent the summer sounding improbably enormous again. Nearly thirty years on from Britpop’s peak, these songs still land with startling force, propelled by Bonehead’s unmistakable rhythm guitar churn and Liam Gallagher’s voice, which remains far stronger than anyone had sensible reason to expect. ‘Some Might Say’, ‘Supersonic’ and ‘Roll With It’ arrive with all the blunt-force swagger that made Oasis unavoidable in the first place, while ‘Cast No Shadow’ and ‘Slide Away’ reveal the bruised romanticism sitting underneath the lager-and-cigarettes mythology. Then there’s ‘Whatever’, which still manages to turn mass singalongs into something oddly moving. Wembley rarely sounded this loud.
